For many people, choosing organic is not only about their health but also the health of our planet.
Organic farming uses techniques that preserve our environment and keep
the soil as healthy as it can be. They do not use synthetic
fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides and chemicals or any other
substances that are or maybe, harmful to soil, water, wildlife, human
life or the environment.
When synthetic pesticides, insecticides and other
chemicals are sprayed onto our farms, it decreases the quality of our
soil and increases salinity (salt levels). It also depletes the soil of
vital minerals necessary for the healthy functioning of our bodies.
Chemicals not only affect the soil they are sprayed
onto. Rain washes these chemicals into our waterways and the water that
we drink. Through the food we eat and skin care products we use, these
chemicals are taken into our bodies. Here they can damage our immune
system and cause allergies, infections and even cancers.
The skin is a living, breathing organ and needs to
be cared for. Everything is absorbed through your skin therefore it
should be gentle and non-toxic.
What is in our products?
Our carefully selected ingredients are all derived from natural sources and we have chosen our ingredients because they are gentle and have beneficial properties and use as much organic as we can get our hands on.
GAIA lists all ingredients used and only the organic ingredients that are certified organic are put on our labels - this validates the organic ingredients to ensure they are following stringent guidelines for their certification. There may be a higher proportion of organic component in our formulations than what is actually listed on the label.
All the certified organic ingredients we use are sourced from
reputable certified farms and carry the appropriate certifications -
Australian Certified Organic (ACO).
As the organic movement grows in momentum, some companies like to
exaggerate their use of organic ingredients for the purpose of
marketing their products.
I have strong feelings about how we market our products. We pride ourselves on not using misleading or confusing information in our marketing.
Many companies market their products as being organic when in fact they
only have a very small percentage of organic in their formulations. Be aware when you are looking to buy organic products, particularly those that claim to have up to 99% certified organic ingredients or have fully certified organic skincare.
In reality these companies may be referring to a few of their
products and not their entire product range. If
you are unsure about any products best to ring the company and ask them
for more detail.
